# California SDI paycheck (2026)

California State Disability Insurance is an employee payroll deduction, not income tax. For 2026 the EDD rate is 1.3% of subject wages with no wage ceiling. This calculator shows SDI as its own line when the state is California.

On an $80,000 wage, SDI is about $1,040 a year ($80,000 × 0.013). That sits on top of California income tax and federal/FICA. It is easy to miss if a tool only prints “state tax.”

SDI funds Disability Insurance and Paid Family Leave. Some employers run a voluntary plan. We use the state-plan rate. We do not model weekly benefit amounts.

Leave the state on California to see the line. Other states do not add this deduction. Reviewed August 24, 2026.

## FAQ

### Is SDI the same as income tax?

No. It is a separate employee contribution. Income tax is the California PIT line.

### Is there a 2026 wage cap?

No. SB 951 removed the taxable wage limit. The 2026 rate is 1.3% on all subject wages (EDD).

### Does a 401(k) reduce SDI?

This model applies SDI to FICA-style wages (gross minus cafeteria health). It does not subtract 401(k).
